CREATIVE SPACE MANAGEMENT INVITE YOU TO: THE SCIENCE OF COLOUR

Delivered exclusively by Colour Group (GB) members, we are very excited to invite you to our second evening in ‘The Science of’ series at The Core, Science Central. Join academic and practitioner members to celebrate their 75th year as an interdisciplinary society, drawing together people interested in all aspects of colour – its perception, measurement, reproduction and artistic expression.

Curated by Artist SUSI BELLAMY, featured in 2015 Northern Design Festival , we welcome four speakers;

 GABRIELE  JORDAN

From the Colour Neuroscience Department at Newcastle University, we will hear about research into the superpower ‘Tetrachromatic Colour Vision’. Answering the question “Is the red I see the same as the red you see?” by exploring psychophysics, gender differences and colour-blindness.

 VALÉRIE BONNARDEL

Are the associations between words and colour arbitrary or is there structure? If so, is this structure meaningful? Valérie, Department of Psychology at the University of Winchester, will explore the secret language of colours and what research has revealed about their role in non-verbal communications.

 CARINNA PARRAMAN

From The Centre for Fine Print Research, UWE Bristol, prepare to be amazed by 2.5D printing. Merging current 2D and 3D techniques, Carinna showcases the opportunities for new textures, unusual materials and specialist colours.

 DANNY GARSIDE

Colour and light are intrinsically linked, and both play a crucial role in how we perceive and ‘enjoy’ the places and spaces around us. But how do we measure visual pleasantness? Colour Scientist and PhD candidate at UCL, Danny Garside, will present his research and answer this question.

Tickets can be found here.

See you there!
