Photon Fire’s expertise is the development of electronic sensors for industrial applications, particularly for use Offshore, in Fire and Security, and Environmental monitoring applications.

The creation of application specific software is a key element to the work of Photon Fire and this enables their clients to access specialist and bespoke products which can be used to analyse the data and respond accordingly.

Founded in 2002 by a team of technologists and business experts, the cultivation of a strong relationship with Newcastle and other Universities has been one key element of Photon Fire’s success.

With a client portfolio comprising multinational organisations, Photon Fire’s business model focuses on innovation – technical research and development – being at the heart of the company with all other business functions outsourced.

Photon Fire is based in The Core on Science Central in Newcastle upon Tyne. A base in The Core has supported accelerated growth in the previous two years due to a high profile city centre location, excellent quality serviced accommodation, collaboration with other Occupiers of The Core, and proximity and access to Newcastle University, all of which provides the Photon Fire team with the ability to attract and retain excellent quality graduates.

Between 2014 and 2016, Photon Fire saw growth of 50% – across staff team, turnover and office space.

“Photon Fire was founded with the express intention of doing what we enjoy, developing new technology. Our base at The Core, Science Central enables us to do this and is key to the growth of our organisation.” Bill Shepherd, Managing Director
